Program Officer

Ankwatse Ritah is a community development and social work professional with expertise in implementing programs in food security, climate-resilient agriculture, environmental and climate protection, youth and women’s economic empowerment, and youth peace building in Uganda. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration and a Master’s degree in African Sustainable Communities, alongside postgraduate training certificates in Monitoring and Evaluation and Project Planning and Management. These qualifications have equipped her with strong analytical skills and extensive practical field experience in sustainable development.

As a Programs Officer with Integrated Community Development Initiative (ICODI), Ritah has contributed to the implementation of diverse projects aimed at youth and women’s economic empowerment in rural and urban poor communities. Her work also supports the health and wellbeing of vulnerable youth, adolescent girls and young women; environmental and climate change protection as well as peace building and prevention of violent extremism in refugee camps and host communities. She applies approaches such as sports-for-peace and development initiatives, intercultural and interfaith engagement and dialogue to promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

Her roles across the implementation of these programs has been/is community mobilization and training, youth and women’s capacity building, stakeholder coordination and engagement, and monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Through these efforts, she supports inclusive, accountable, and results-driven initiatives that strengthen community resilience and social inclusion.

Prior to joining ICODI, Ritah worked with Cultivaid, an Israel-based international nonprofit organization focused on agricultural development, food security, and rural economic growth in Eastern and Southern Africa, and Gigawatt Global, a founding partner of the U.S. Power Africa Program and a multinational renewable energy company implementing food security and climate resilience initiatives alongside utility-scale solar projects in emerging markets. Under their integrated food security and solar project in Uganda, she supported program development through field-based research, market and community assessments, stakeholder mapping, and reporting, with a particular focus on assessing how climate-resilient agricultural practices can strengthen food security among low-income and vulnerable households.

Ritah’s work is guided by a community-led and results-oriented approach; ensuring programs remain context-responsive, accountable, and aligned with organizational priorities. She is deeply committed to advancing sustainable livelihoods, resilient food systems, health equity, and peaceful communities, and to translating grassroots insights into impactful and scalable development solutions.
